RDC XI, during its virtual conference on December 7, 2020 approved the implementation of the Updated Regional Tourism Development Plan (RTDP), 2020-2022 and Regional Farm Tourism Strategic Action Plan (RFTSAP), 2020-2023.

Anchored on the Tourism Response and Recovery Plan (TRRP) of the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Davao Region Recovery Program to Mitigate Losses from COVID-19 and to Adapt to the New Normal, the RTDP aims to revitalize the tourism industry while strictly adhering to globally accepted health and safety standards and protocols.

Among other objectives, the RTDP shall focus on developing and marketing of thematic tourism destinations and products, which shall include Farm tourism; Nature; Health and Wellness; Diving and Marine Sports; and Culture Tourism.  Along this line, Regional Tourism Circuits shall be promoted, showcasing a multitude of tourism packages that would suit the likewise varied preferences of both domestic and foreign tourists.   Simultaneously, infrastructure development to promote accessibility and connectivity, information and communications technology (ICT), and health facilities, shall be pursued in coordination with local government units (LGUs) and agencies such as DPWH, DOH and DTI.

As a supplementary document to the RTDP, the Regional Farm Tourism Action Plan (RTSFAP), 2020-2022 on the other hand, outlines the priority programs, activities, and projects (PAPs) of the DOT to develop and promote farm tourism in Davao Region along the areas of Market Research; Human Resource Development;  Agriculture and Fishery Research; Investment Promotion and Financing Incentives; Tourism Standards (Accreditation); Infrastructure Support; Institutional Support; and Market Promotion and Development.

As one of Davao Region’s priority tourism product, Farm Tourism is envisioned to provide additional income for farmers and fisherfolk and promote the agriculture profession as a lucrative venture among the younger generation.
