The Social Development Committee (SDC) XI endorsed the Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition (RPAN), 2023-2028 for adoption by the Regional Development Council (RDC) XI during its CY 2024 4th Quarter Regular Meeting on November 28, 2024 at the D’Leonor Hotel, J.P. Laurel Avenue, Davao City.
Highlights of the Davao RPAN, 2023-2028 were presented by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Retsebeth M. Laquihon of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) XI. “Anchored on the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN), 2023-2028, the Davao RPAN sets the framework for addressing regional nutrition challenges and improving nutrition outcomes in the Region,” Laquihon said.
These nutritional problems, according to Ms. Laquihon, are due to immediate and underlying causes ranging from inadequate food intake, poor participation in health programs/services, food insecurity and inadequate health services, and at the root of these problems are the basic issues of poverty and lack of education.
Among other nutritional outcome targets, the RPAN, 2023-2028 aims to reduce prevalence of stunting and wasting among 0-5 years old children from 5.8% in 2021 to 0.8% by end of 2028, and from 1.1% in 2021 to 0.4% by end of 2028, respectively. End-of-plan targets for reducing obesity, micronutrient deficiencies, as well as stunting and wasting across all age groups have also been set in the Davao RPAN.
Once adopted by the RDC XI Full Council, the RPAN, 2023-2028 will be disseminated for implementation by all concerned agencies, academe, local government units, and other private sector stakeholders in Davao Region.
