(Davao City, July 23, 2025). The Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) XI conducted its 3rd Quarter 2025 Field Monitoring Activity on July 15–16, 2025 in Davao City, focusing on the implementation of critical road and bridge projects. The monitoring continued on July 21–23, 2025 in Davao Occidental, where the team assessed key social infrastructure initiatives, as well as road and bridge structures along the Davao-Saranggani Road that remain unpaved and were damaged by various weather-related incidents including flooding, strong winds, and landslides, primarily due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and localized thunderstorms  in June 2025.

In Davao City, the team inspected all ongoing project packages of the Davao City Coastal Road Project including the Bucana Bridge Project on July 15, 2025. The Bucana Bridge Project is a flagship component of the Davao City Coastal Road development. Once completed, the bridge will provide a direct link across the Davao River. The Bucana Bridge project is 92.302 percent complete with all sections of the superstructure connected and installation of stay cables for all piers completed.

The RPMC XI monitoring team inspected a total of 24 projects located in Davao City which are parts of four (4) key bridges and two (2) major road networks.

In Davao Occidental, the RPMC XI team inspected critical sections of the Davao–Sarangani Road that were damaged by weather-related incidents in June 2025. The inspection focused on the Lamidan Bridge in the Municipality of Don Marcelino, the Luayon Bridge in Municipality of Jose Abad Santos, and areas affected by landslides, lahar flow, and road slips in both municipalities. During the visit, temporary repairs were implemented to ensure the affected road sections remained passable. The DPWH Davao Occidental District Engineering Office is currently processing a request for Quick Response Fund (QRF) assistance to undertake full rehabilitation of the damaged roads and bridges.

In addition, the monitoring team assessed the progress of several social infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Malita Women’s and Children’s Wellness Center, the Kiobog Barangay Health Station in Don Marcelino, and the restoration of the Gabaldon School Building at JAS Central Elementary School in Jose Abad Santos. The school building project has been completed, with 10 classrooms now in use by kindergarten and Grade 1 students. Meanwhile, construction of the LGU hospital and the barangay health station remains ongoing.

The remaining project visited by the monitoring team in Davao Occidental is the Cayaponga-Malalan Bypass Road. The bypass road will connect an unpaved section of the Davao-Saranggani road which remained unpaved due to infeasibility of road construction of the original national road alignment. Several sections of the Davao-Saranggani Road remain unpaved hindering access of remote communities in the Province. A number of road sections of the Davao–Sarangani Road remain unpaved, limiting accessibility to remote communities in the province. The bypass road is a step to address these gaps by enhancing connectivity in underserved areas.
