Davao City, March 24, 2024 – The Regional Land Use Committee (RLUC) XI conducted a 3-day Modular Training-Workshop for the updating of the Davao Regional Physical Framework Plan, 2015-2045 on May 22-24, 2024, at the NEDA-RDC XI Center, Bangkal, Davao City. Around 65 participants joined the training, mainly coming from the NEDA XI technical staff, and technical staff representatives of member-agencies of the Regional Land Use Committee XI, provincial LGUs, and Davao City.
The training-workshop featured a combination of lectures and workshops. The lectures were conducted by land use and urban planning experts, including Ms. Hailey V. Meriel-Sygui, EnP of the DHSUD Central Office who discussed the 4 Policy Areas of Land Use Planning and Dr. Mark Anthony M. Morales, EnP of the University of the Philippines-School of Urban and Regional Planning who discussed on Smart Growth and Transit-Oriented Development. The main activity was the workshop on the updating of data and information to be used in the Planning Environment chapter of Davao Regional Physical Framework Plan (DRPFP), 2025-2055. The preliminary output of the training-workshop included the initial updated database (tables, graph, and maps). The updating of the DRPFP shall run until the 4th quarter of the 2024 and shall culminate with its presentation and approval by the Regional Land Use Committee XI.
The training-workshop was conducted as part of the major capability-building activities relative to the updating of the Davao Regional Physical Framework Plan (DRPFP), 2015-2045, which is pursuant to Executive Order No. 770, s. 2008, wherein the Regional Land Use Committee, through the NEDA as its technical secretariat, is mandated to formulate and periodically update the Regional Physical Framework Plan (RPFP), taking into consideration national, interregional, regional, and local plans and policies.
The Davao Regional Physical Framework Plan is a 30-year physical framework plan that provides the overall spatial direction for Davao Region and is anchored on the National Physical Framework Plan (NPFP). The enactment of new laws, frameworks, strategies, and higher-level plans, as well as consideration of new planning approaches, necessitates the updating of the DRPFP, 2015-2045. The updated DRPFP, 2015-2045 shall also serve as inputs to the updating of the Mindanao Spatial Strategy/Development Framework (MSS/DF)
A second modular training-workshop shall be conducted in August 2024, which will focus on the identification of spatial strategies for the Region, as well as generating a vision, mission, and development objective and goals for the long-term strategic spatial development of the Region.
