(Davao City, March 18, 2025). The Joint RDC – Advisory Committee XI approved the CY 2024 Davao Regional Development Report (DRDR) on March 18, 2025 at the Sotogrande Hotel, Maa, Davao City.
The CY 2024 DRDR highlighted the assessment for high performing and low performing sectors in Davao Region. Social infrastructure and the employment and livelihood sectors were among the Region’s high performing sectors with 75 percent of its indicators exceeding target. The water resources, sanitation and flood control sector also performed above par with 64 percent of its indicators exceeding target. Other sectors with high rates of indicators being on target include (1) research and development, technology and innovation, (2) good governance, (3) trade and investments, (4) agriculture, and (5) logistics.
On the other hand, the region’s low performing sectors include (1) energy, (2) services, and (3) administration of justice.
As ways forward to improve the low-performing sectors, the energy sector shall strengthen collaboration between the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the concerned local government units (LGU) and distribution units (DU) for the improvement of road access to unserved areas. This collaboration can optimize the technical expertise and infrastructure of DUs, the local knowledge and community engagement of LGUs, and the electric cooperative’s focus on service.
The services sector will pursue infrastructure development to improve tourism and other services-based industries. For instance, the expansion of the Davao International Airport and the development of Mati Airport will be pursued to enhance air connectivity. Investments in physical and digital connectivity will also support the development of two (2) tourism zones approved by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Board. Likewise, the tourism sector shall continue implementing its Market and Product Development Program to promote market expansion and tourism investments.
To enhance the administration of justice, the jail management and corrections sector shall address the perennial issue on congested jails and prison facilities through the construction of additional jails and prison facilities that meet quality standards and with expanded capacity to ensure that PDLs are provided with humane living conditions, while either awaiting trial, while trial is on-going, or while serving their sentences.
The CY 2024 DRDR is an evidence based report of the Region’s accomplishments vis-a-vis the development targets embodied in the Davao Regional Development Plan.
